Complexity in business

Entertainment of Authority employees by suppliers is acceptable within normal commercial criteria. These are defined as follows: a) A meal may be accepted at a local venue (but this must not include residential stay). Entertainment that is lavish or frequent may appear to influence one’s independent judgment on behalf of PBSI. If an invitation seems inappropriate, we must turn down the offer or pay the true value of the entertainment ourselves.

Information transmitted through Torstar resources implies affiliation with Torstar and should therefore reflect positively upon Torstar. Employees shall comply with the terms of the email and internet acceptable use policies in place at Torstar or within the applicable business division. Information is material if it may affect an investor’s decision to buy, sell or hold securities of a company. To use nonpublic information for personal benefit or to “tip” others who might make an investment decision on the basis of such information is also illegal. Informed consent should be sought from all human subjects, and if confidentiality or anonymity is requested it should be honored. Manuscripts involving human subjects (surveys, simulations, interviews) should comply with the relevant Human Subject Protocol requirements at the Author’s university.

Conflicts of interest are prohibited as a matter of CompX policy. If you have a question about a potential conflict, consult your supervisor or manager or the officer in charge of your department. Conflicts of interest may also arise when an employee, officer, or director (or his or her immediate family members) receives improper personal benefits as a result of that individual’s position in or access to the Company. For purposes of this Code, immediate family member is defined as spouse, child, parent, brother or sister of the employee or any family member living with the employee. Conflicts of interest also arise when a Director, or a member of his or her family, receives improper personal benefits as a result of his or her position with the Corporation.

Business code ethics

Employees are encouraged to communicate their concerns, as well as ask questions about ethical issues. The Ethics Line is available to all Boeing employees, in all payrolls, from anywhere in the company, including subsidiaries. Employees who are facing a potential conflict, or who are aware of a violation of this policy may, as a first step, report it to their direct management. Management may obtain legal advice from Legal Services on whether a conflict of interest exists. Employees should refer to the section entitled Compliance Procedures, Policies and Rules for guidance on complying with the Code. No provision of this Code may be waived for any director or executive officer without approval of the TI board of directors and appropriate public disclosure. (more…)
